Save the tuber! – Let’s make a difference together

Following the 2025 harvest, many farms were faced with an unusual problem: large quantities of potatoes of impeccable quality met with insufficient market demand. Some of this produce could not be marketed as food as intended. This is where the ‘Save the Tuber!’ initiative by the student services organisations comes in. The aim is to reintegrate surplus potato stocks into communal catering on a larger scale – thereby reducing food waste, supporting regional producers and raising the profile of sustainable eating in everyday university life. What does this mean in practice? More potato-based dishes and side dishes in canteens and cafeterias – nationwide, coordinated and with a measurable impact. In this way, student services organisations demonstrate how communal catering takes responsibility:

pragmatically, effectively and in line with everyday life
