Info - About us

As a modern service company, the Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern provides the framework that allows the around 17,000 students in Kaiserslautern, Zweibrücken and Pirmasens to study successfully. To do this, our 200 staff work in a diverse range of fields, including:

  • University catering in Mensas and cafeterias
  • Construction and management of halls of residence
  • Childcare in nurseries
  • Psychological counselling
  • Legal advice
  • Financial advice
  • Promotion of cultural activities
  • Other services (e.g. removal van rental, ISIC card)

These services are predominantly funded by the income generated by the Mensas, cafeterias and halls of residence, the social contributions paid by students and subsidies from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern is a public law institution, whose role is defined in the state’s Universities Act. Its actions are conducted by the organs defined by the legislation, the administrative council and the managing director.

The managing director conducts current business and represents Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern externally.

The administrative council advises and monitors the managing director and concludes Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern’s articles of association and the contribution directive, for example. It is made up of three professors from the universities involved, a chancellor, a person from public life and four students, as well as the chair of the staff council in a purely advisory role.

Just like all the 58 students’ unions in Germany, Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern is also organised within the umbrella organisation "Deutsches Studentenwerk" (DSW) and is a member of the Deutscher Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband  (Der Paritätische).
